In 104 patients,
during biliary surgery, a simple flowmetry was obtained
through a choledochal cathteter and the body of a syringe
filled with saline, the level being kept by hand 30 cm
above the duct.
The normal average flow was 23 ml/mn.
In the presence
of stenosis, the flow was below 10 ml/mn.
Flowmetry prevented numerous abusive sphincterotomies.
A ball flowmeter was also used but it was more complicated
and useless.
