In normal human duodenum
and jejunum, pressure tracings showed prolonged sequences
of waves, after which the bowel was refractory to serotonin.
These sequences and this refractory state were similar to
the specific tracings following an injection of serotonin
(enteramin). An accelerate evacuation was observed by using
cineradiometry. These analogies favour a physiological role
of serotonin in the motility of duodenum and jejunum, but
not of ileum or colon in man.
