In humans, the cholesterol
does not come from food but is synthesized from alimentary
sugars in the intestinal mucosa. With Michele Millo and
Marie-Jeanne Favier, we demonstrated this biosynthesis from
radio-active precursors on duodenal biopsies obtained through
transpyloric endoscopies. In rats, after choledochal ligation,
there was a nine-fold increase of the biosynthesis.
